Councilor Will Mbah—Somerville resident, environmental scientist, immigrant advocate, and veteran At-Large councilor—is running for re-election. His priorities include:
- Affordable housing & housing stability: Spearheaded Office of Housing Stability; supports community land trust initiatives
- Environmental justice & climate action: Chair of Open Space, Energy & Environment Committee; leads policies on plastics reduction, green infrastructure, and stormwater resilience
- Safe, complete streets & transit equity: Advocate for protected bike lanes, ADA accessibility, and safer roads
- Police oversight & equity reforms: Champion of civilian oversight board, accountability, and social service–oriented public safety
The Campaign Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of Will Mbah’s re-election campaign, overseeing communications, field, digital strategy, and community engagement. This role requires a strong organizer and strategic thinker who’s passionate about progressive politics, local change, and equitable governance.
You will serve as the campaign’s central coordinator—ensuring alignment across messaging, outreach, scheduling, and volunteer efforts. Ideal for someone with experience in campaign organizing, field operations, or political communications.
Campaign Strategy & Management
- Drive execution of the overall campaign plan in coordination with the candidate and advisors
- Set timelines, benchmarks, and goals across communications, field, and digital outreach
Team & Volunteer Coordination
- Supervise campaign staff, interns, and volunteers
- Organize weekly team meetings and trainings; delegate tasks effectively
Communications Oversight
- Approve and guide content creation: email blasts, press releases, social media, op-eds, and talking points
- Coordinate media outreach and manage public messaging in collaboration with comms staff
Field & Voter Outreach
- Oversee direct voter contact strategies, including canvassing, phone/text banking, and community events
- Track field data and voter engagement metrics
Policy Research & Messaging
- Support message development on key issues: housing, transit, environment, equity reforms
- Align policy messaging with real-time feedback from the field and community
Digital & Tech Coordination
- Ensure digital content and website are timely and on-brand
- Utilize tools (e.g., NGP VAN, Mobilize, Canva, social media platforms) to manage outreach and engagement
- 2 years experience in political campaigns, organizing, communications, or advocacy
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Experience managing volunteers or small teams in fast-paced environments
- Familiarity with voter engagement tools (e.g., VAN, PDI), digital platforms, and social media strategy
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple deadlines, and adapt quickly
- Passion for progressive politics and familiarity with issues central to Somerville (housing, transit, climate justice)
- Graphic design or digital content experience is a plus but not required
- Knowledge of Somerville’s neighborhoods, constituencies, and civic landscape strongly preferred
- Leadership experience running a progressive municipal campaign
- Exposure to high-level strategy, voter outreach, and coalition-building
- Mentorship and collaboration with a diverse team of organizers and policy advocates
