What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Counsel (Insurance Defense Counsel) position at Williams & Connolly LLP?
Williams & Connolly LLP is currently seeking Claims Counsel to undertake defense work for a self-insured client. Under the direction of the partners, Claims Counsel will handle the defense of numerous small claims against a single firm client with multiple lines of business. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
This position requires the ability flexibility to manage a high-volume caseload in cooperation with firm management, partners, associates, other Claims Counsel, and firm employees in a professional manner as well as the ability to manage and prioritize a large volume of work assignments, meeting all deadlines. We are looking for people with a 'can do' attitude who work well under pressure and deliver work product of the highest quality at every opportunity.
Required Education and Bar Membership:
Candidates must hold a J.D. and must be a current, active member in good standing of the DC Bar. Please include your DC Bar number on your resume. Membership in other state bars is a plus. The ability to carry up to 20 pounds is also required.
- Developing a case strategy
- Answering complaints
- Drafting and responding to discovery
- Client communications
- Handling all communications with opposing counsel
- Hiring and managing expert witnesses as needed
- Drafting motions and responses to motions
- Conducting and defending depositions
- Drafting mediation statements
- Conducting mediations
- Appearing in court as needed
- Pre-trial preparations
- Conduct trials
- Drafting settlement agreements
- Administrative duties related to case tracking and reporting
