Job Summary: The Parks Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor duties and routine maintenance including but not limited to mowing, watering, planting, leaf and debris pick up, snow removal, equipment operation, and all other tasks associated with maintaining Park District property. This is a PT 1 ACA position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
- Perform gardening activities including planting and weeding, by hand or with equipment
- Removal of snow and ice from pedestrian and maintenance compound areas if applicable
- Assists with the organization, storage, and lock up of all shop related areas and items at the end of each work day
- Operate Park District vehicles and equipment
- Operate hand or power equipment to mow turf and maintain soil areas
- Plant, trim, and maintain plants, trees and shrubs
- Maintain athletic fields
- Pick up trash, empty trash cans and remove from parks
- Responsible for the proper use and care of assigned equipment, tools, and supplies
- Perform all work promptly and safely and with attention to detail
- Keep all related equipment and tools clean, maintained, and stored properly
- Keep equipment storage and shop areas neat, clean and organized
- Receive regular verbal or written directions from immediate supervisor or designated on site supervisor
- Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors and team leaders as needed
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, carry, and repeatedly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally required to climb, balance and smell
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration
- Occasionally work in high precarious places and in outside weather conditions including but not limited to wet and/or humid conditions
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- The noise level of the work environment is usually loud
Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a valid Class D drivers license
