Communications Manager, Tabletop Magic

For decades, Wizards of the Coast has connected people around the world through play and imagination, with core games that have defined their genres - Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons®. We want to offer more ways to connect and play as the company grows. And that’s where you come in.

We are seeking a Communications Manager to tell the multiverse about all of the outstanding things Magic: The Gathering has to offer. The Communications Manager is the project manager for our communications, responsible for messaging, communications calendars, communications planning, and guiding talkers through meaningful moments. You’ll be a leader in the company, an advisor to other teams, and a font of knowledge about everything we do.

The position reports directly to the Senior Communications Manager and is encouraged to foster tighter teamwork and communication with key internal product partners to develop a communications strategy and presence that cultivates two-way information flows between our fans, potential fans, and our studios.

A day in the life of a Communications Manager

  • Align with tabletop studio teams to plan and complete communications plans centered around key campaigns, news, and announcements. Lead the implementation of communications plans, coordinating with communications team members, regional team members, and key partners.
  • Identify and mitigate communications concerns as they emerge.
  • Lead communications flow from intake through publication.
  • Develop and maintain consistency of voice across all brand expressions.
  • Build, manage, and coordinate company communications calendar.
  • Align with marketing partners for parallel communications planning alongside campaign planning.
  • Develop messaging playbooks with Senior Communications team and Community Managers.
  • Become a trusted leader with vision within the company by driving innovative and ambitious ideas from concept to execution.
  • Follow industry trends to continue exploring communications ideas on the forefront of the industry.
  • Advise executives and creators on varied sophisticated and critical decisions that have significant impact and prepare and colleagues for interviews and appearances.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 5 years’ experience crafting and handling external communications.
  • A degree in mass communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing experience.
  • Outstanding organizational skills capable of balancing multiple projects at once.
  • Creativity, passion, and enthusiasm for communications.
  • The ability to work across teams on a variety of topics.
  • Knowledge of voice, tone, and other buzzwords for how we speak to our fans—from the most serious topics to the lighthearted and fun!
  • A mind for developing communications tools to help teams interact with our fans in positive ways.
