Position Summary
Seasonal Park Laborer works with Parks and Facilities Department staff completing work assignments in the maintenance of all parks and facilities of the Wood Dale Park District. The Seasonal Park Laborer is accountable to the Parks and Facilities Foreman.
This is a seasonal part-time position that typically works Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. Hours may vary due to weather or need. The pay is $16.00 per hour.
Work Location
Reports to the Wood Dale Park District Maintenance Garage, 100 E. Montrose Ave, Wood Dale, IL 60191, daily. Will work at the Beach Aquatic Facility, the Recreation Complex, Salt Creek Golf Club and various Park sites as job and daily duties dictate.
Contact with Others
Position involves everyday internal and external contacts, acting as a public relations agent for the Department.
Supervision
General supervision is provided by the Parks and Facilities Foreman
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain Park District turf areas including mowing, trimming, aerating, and seeding.
- Perform landscape maintenance to include watering, mulching, weeding, planting of flowers, trees and shrubs, tree pruning and shrub trimming.
- Performs the maintenance of athletic fields including, grooming, grading, rolling and line marking.
- Perform and document monthly inspections including, vehicles, building, playground and sports fields.
- Perform general building tasks including custodial, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of playground.
- Assist in inventory of supplies, tools and equipment.
- Perform removal of trash and refuse.
- Assist in the repair and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Perform other duties and functions as directed.
Other Job Functions
- Perform the job in compliance with Park District policies.
- Demonstrate and support the Park District’s mission statement, vision statement and values.
- Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community group and other units of government.
- Assist with and/or attend park district special events.
Qualifications
- Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to operate Park District vehicles and equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.
Working Conditions
- Requires lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires strenuous and physical activity, including but not limited to lifting, climbing, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, sitting, prolonged standing, and prolonged visual concentration.
- General work conditions outdoors are frequent exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions.
- General work conditions indoors are frequent exposure to dirt, dust fumes, exposure to chemicals such as chlorine, acids, pesticides, fertilizers cleaning solutions, petroleum products, etc.
- Personal protective clothing is required as it pertains to a particular job duty and may include earplugs, helmets, respirators, safety goggles/glasses, chaps, boots, and protective gloves.
- Exposure to noise distractions from employees, patrons or equipment operation.
