Parks Grounds Seasonal Laborer

Part-Time Job Opportunity:

This is a seasonal position May - August. 40  hours per week. General schedule of Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm.

Job Summary: 

The Seasonal Parks Laborer employee is directed to perform a variety of basic park maintenance tasks.  This is an at-will position.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Turf maintenance – mowing, trimming of park areas, assist in seeding, sodding, and establishing new turf.
2. Landscaping work – assist in planting trees, shrubs, and flowers; maintaining landscape beds.
3. General painting of amenities, buildings, playground equipment, etc.
4. Athletic field maintenance – assist in striping fields, grooming infields, home plate and pitching mound repairs, bench repairs, etc. 
5. Playground maintenance – assist with repair and installation of playground equipment.
6. General building maintenance – assist with roof repair, windows and doors, etc.
7. General cleaning and minor maintenance within park facilities.
8. Remove garbage from parks and facilities.
9. Remove snow from parking lots, sidewalks, and throughout the park district, as needed.
10. Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
11. Attend district-wide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
12. Comply with the District’s Dress Code by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing.
13. Personal protective equipment must be used at all appropriate times.
14. Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations.  The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
15. The District encourages its employees to “take ownership” of the District.  As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent.  Must be at least 18 years old.   Prefer previous maintenance experience.  Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.
