Job Description
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly or indirectly supervises all employee in the Aquatics Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Bachelor’s degree in related field and minimum of one year related experience or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members and the general public. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and interest. - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, and risk or electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
- Certifications preferred prior to hire and required within 30 days of hire include a nationally recognized Pool Operator certification, CPRO/FA Certification, current YMCA or Red Cross lifeguard certification, AED and Oxygen Administration.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Directing and supervising program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishing new program activities and expanding programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directing personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviewing and evaluating staff performance. Developing strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensuring records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducting and ensuring proper maintenance of pool(s). Securing and scheduling pool facilities. Maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Conducting lifeguarding, swim instruction, Oxygen Administration, First Aid, CPR and monthly in-service training.
- Creating and scheduling swim classes and water fitness classes.
- Assisting in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Developing and monitoring program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assisting in YMCA fundraising activities and special events as assigned.
- Modeling relationship building skills in all interactions. Responding to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Compiling program statistics; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Having the skills and physical abilities necessary to substitute for subordinate employees as required for regular scheduling and staff shortages.
