PRESCHOOL ASSISTANT TEACHER

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Preschool Assistant Teacher will support the teaching staff in implementing preschool programs. The incumbent will assist with carrying out the preschool mission and values by providing high quality preschool services to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ JOB DUTIES:

1. Assists the lead teacher in implementing curriculum within the established guidelines.
2. Assists in supervising the children, classroom, and all activities.
3. Assists with daily observations and child evaluations.
4. Assists with maintaining the preschool room and equipment
5. Contributes to activity preparation and clean up and room maintenance.
6. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings , and staff trainings.
7. Assists with maintaining required program records.
8. Observes DHS Rule 3 regulations for a Licensed Child Care Center.

9.   Follow all YMCA policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Assistant Teacher qualifications, including yearly in service requirements.
2. CPR, First Aid, and other training required by the Department of Human Services

 (YMCA will provide this training upon hire).

1. A commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives.
2. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate preschool program activities.
3. Excellent skills in assistant teaching, oral communication, written communication, interpersonal communitcation and human relations.
4. Ability to work with children one-on-one or in small groups without assistance.
5. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
6. Never been convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).  Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.  The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.

Salary : $13 - $15
