NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision of a probation supervisor, the Family Support Specialist delivers programs to groups of juveniles and parents/guardians to teach skills, educate, and change behavior; the FSS assists probation team members in supervising youth, achieving case plan goals, and keeping records.
Nature of Work
(Illustrative Only) In conjunction with probation staff, develops program curriculum to address and correct criminogenic needs, enhance life skills, improve parenting, build positive relationships, increase motivation, and change behavior; facilitates programs by leading classes, scheduling guest speakers, coordinating volunteers, and keeping participation records; identifies and communicates program needs for staffing, volunteers, equipment, supplies and other materials; works with families as a resource and participates as a member of the child’ decision making team; tracks data; measures and reports outcomes; operates within the established parameters, guidelines, policies and procedures of assigned programs and projects; utilizes positive reinforcement strategies and verbal de-escalation techniques as needed to modify behavior; meets with parents and/or juveniles on a regular basis to promote willingness to engage in programs and reduce non-compliance with the established case plan; prepares reports for funding agencies and others on program participation and effectiveness; documents progress in probation case records; participates in community outreach and public meetings to promote collaborative information sharing, inter-agency cooperation and communication; assists probation staff in supervising probationers assigned to community service and restitution work projects; transports youth in state and county vehicles; provides a variety of administrative services in the operation of delinquency/dependency family support programs; responds to requests for information within the scope of authority; maintains and enforces absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and Court information; abides by the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Experience and Education
Associate degree from an accredited college/ university and one year of facilitating programs; OR a high school diploma or GED and three years of facilitating programs; OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; be a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years; be a United States citizen or legal resident; must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This classification requires the applicant to pass extensive criminal background and normal reference checks; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required; PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment, detention facility and/or outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures, and applicable Federal rules and requirements; Superior Court and Juvenile Court Policies and Procedures; Judicial Employees; principles of adolescent and general human behavior; and evidence-based practices in community corrections; the criminal justice system and community resources; legal terminology and court processes and procedures; diversion, Standard and Juvenile and/or Adult Intensive Probation and community supervision; social and community corrections casework.
Skills in: Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds; working under pressure in a dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities; self-control, patience, initiative, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in order to maintain effective relationships with a diverse population; interviewing, motivating, and interpersonal relationships; time management and organization with the ability to apply principle and methods of correctional casework; critical analysis of individuals and situations in order to problem solve and make sound decisions; effective oral and written communication; public speaking and conducting presentations.
Ability To: Work independently; operate a variety of equipment necessary to perform job duties such as motor vehicles, computers, telephones, radios, and other equipment as need to perform duties; hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over the phone; withstand varying weather temperatures; lift, drag, push, and carry items of various weight; independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and or/drive a vehicle; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from three (3) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employee's needs, dependents or families.
Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 1100 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.
Plan Option 2: Preferred Provider Option B (PPO) or PPO B 1,500 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.
Plan Option 3: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) with a 1700 deductible. Employees who participate in the “ Wellness Incentive” will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.
Employer contributes a total of $800.04 to employees Health Savings Account. If employees select Employee only and participate in the “ Wellness Incentive” employees can receive up to 360.00 contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card to be used for medical or dental purposes.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan A and PPO Plan B. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
