Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and safety-focused Planer Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and ongoing maintenance of the planer system to ensure consistent product quality and safe operations. Key responsibilities include changing and grinding knives, maintaining accuracy and alignment, and performing regular upkeep on components such as belts, rolls, bearings, and sprockets.
You’ll also be responsible for maintaining the knife grinder and organizing the grinding room, including spare parts inventory. This position requires collaboration with millwrights, electricians, and supervisors to troubleshoot issues and ensure timely part replacements.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance and set up of the planer.
- Maintain the safety of the planer.
- Maintain the accuracy of the planer.
- Change knives and planer heads for the product that is being processed.
- Grind knives. Maintain knife grinder and organization of the grinding room and all spare parts within it.
- Maintain the planer systems by greasing, changing wear parts like the linebar, hold down shoes, tail plate, rolls, any and all belts, sprockets, and bearings.
- Feed the planer and train others on the infeed to the planer.
- Work with millwrights and supervision to order and replace any and all parts having to do with the planer and feed table.
- Work with electricians to troubleshoot issues with the planer systems.
