What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Designer position at Actalent Engineering?
Actalent Engineering is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Designer opening with a machine manufacturer that is located in York, PA. This person will be responsible for joining the product development team and supporting various phases of projects ranging from concept generation and initial design all the way through final hardware delivery and volume production. The types of projects vary from exploratory trade studies to highly detailed electro-mechanical systems.
Below is a summary of responsibilities for this position:
- Participate as part of the Product Development team in the full product development life-cycle.
- Developing new mechanical designs under the direction of a Product Engineer and within the time constraints required to be competitive in our market.
- Creation of Interface Control Drawings in support of program objectives
- 2D/3D mechanical design of our products and work instructions to effectively communicate purchasing and build needs for both assemblies and components
- Creation of part numbers, Bill of Materials, and routings within our MRP system
- Modification of existing products to meet custom requirements
- Engineering Change Notices and updating product documentation to meet “As-Built” conditions
- Provides technical writing support for the creation of operation / maintenance manuals and related parts lists or other documentation
- Primary ownership of Document Control to ensure proper revision history and distribution of product and component data
- Effectively communicating design progress and changes to multiple teams internally and assisting engineers in presenting updates externally to customers
- Work with team members to understand project requirements and ensure designs comply with them, including but not limited to performance, cost, lead time, export controls, and quality standards
- Communicate with external vendors supporting the fabrication of custom components
- Working with multiple internal teams to ensure efficient flow of information related to design, BOMs, MRP, or purchasing requirements.
Below is a summary of requirements for qualified candidates:
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Engineering CAD Design or a related discipline
- 3 years of experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Complex assembly design experience
- Sheet metal background (bend tolerancing etc)
- Experience with GD&T
- Experience with design of mechanical systems and strong design for manufacturability (DFM) background

Pay: $23.00 - $35.00 per hour
