Currently, the Ann Arbor Public Schools seeks a highly competent and committed school principal to lead Slauson Middle School.
Slauson Middle School is a nationally designated School To Watch nestled in the Old West Side neighborhood of Ann Arbor near the University of Michigan and is located within walking distance of downtown Ann Arbor. With a student body of almost 750 students in grades 6th-8th, Slauson is committed to educational excellence, the development of self-esteem, and the cultivation of academic and social skills in a safe and supportive environment where respect for individual differences and the rights of others guides school behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in supervision, administration, curriculum, or related field
Three years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level or equivalent administrative experience
Five years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience at the secondary level
Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning, thinking, and collaboration skills; knowledge of or experience with TregoED problem-solving processes or the willingness to learn
Successful oversight of school improvement and accreditation processes
Successful implementation of reform practices that creates and maintains a safe school culture with attention to increased attendance and lower rates of discipline/suspensions
Successful oversight of special education inclusion, personal curriculum and co-teaching
Successful leadership and engagement in innovative work to address achievement and opportunity disparities using data to implement, promote, and assess program effectiveness and improved graduation rates
Proof of COVID vaccination required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (or ability to obtain) with Masters Degree in Education, secondary administration preferable.
Meet requirements for Michigan administrative certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate to provide the school community leadership, vision, and direction for a comprehensive middle school
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, staff, and families
Demonstrate a self-reflective, innovative, anti-racist, equity-focused set of core beliefs
Co-create an anti-racist, collaborative environment among staff, students, families, and the greater Ann Arbor community
Improve and expand the educational opportunities and planning for all students, including students with diverse and special needs
Demonstrate proficiency with culturally responsive pedagogy and instructional techniques/tools
Foster a dynamic school culture centered on holistic, inclusive learning communities
Work with diverse ethnic and socio-economic groups, and maintain positive relations with all members of the school community
Foster community relationships and partnerships that support students
Select, supervise, and evaluate all staff required for a comprehensive middle school program, and collaborate with teachers in improving teaching and learning
Understand current research and effective best practices to design, implement, and maintain a high-quality comprehensive middle school program
Define, develop, and maintain a learning community with high standards of instructional excellence in curriculum, instructional methods, instructional supervision and coaching, student assessment, and school improvement and planning
Define and develop organizational leadership, school culture, student and parent engagement, staff management, community relations, legal issues, and school governance
Supervise and support technology integration
Implement and support the District's operational goals as articulated by the Superintendent
Prepare and monitor school budgets
Implement policy and procedure for the Board of Education State and/or Federal levels at the building level

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
