What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Aide - Special Events position at Apex Park and Recreation District?
Responsible for assisting the Recreation Coordinator at the Community Recreation Center to plan, prepare, run and evaluate special events, summer concerts, game days, and activities.

This position works 20-30 hours monthly and the number of hours may be different each week.

- Assists with the planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of special events, summer concerts, game days, and activities as assigned.
- Plans menus, shops, cooks, serves, and cleans up meals or refreshments in conjunction with activities, keeping expenses within budget guidelines.
- Helps coordinate decorations and/or prizes when necessary.
- Guides and works in cooperation with volunteers in implementing activities.
- Maintains records, prepares requested reports, and evaluations of activities.
- Helps develop new special events, and activity ideas.
- Maintains current inventory of equipment and supplies assigned to each activity, and is responsible for the purchase, maximum usage, storage, and repairs of such equipment and supplies.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs all functions in a customer service-oriented manner as presented in the associate handbook.
- Meets regularly with the Recreation Coordinator and other staff for planning and evaluating the Center’s operations.
- Assists with the set up and take down of tables, chairs, and audio/visual equipment to provide proper arrangements for activities.
- Assists supervisor in the operations of the Center to ensure a safe and inviting atmosphere for community recreation.
- Shall be familiar with and promote the visions, objectives, values, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Apex Park and Recreation District.
- Performs other duties or tasks as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Knowledge of event/meal planning and preparation, including development of menus, determining amounts of food/supplies needed, comparative shopping, efficient and safe meal preparation, and appealing food presentation.
- Basic knowledge of physical, social, mental, and emotional changes that occur with aging.
- Demonstration of good customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during repeated interruptions and stressful situations.
- Basic knowledge of budgeting and business math skills, including recipe conversion.
- Ability to effectively use recreational and general office software on computers.
- Current certification in C.P.R., First Aid and AED.
- Must possess a current and valid Colorado driver’s license and have a good Motor Vehicle Record.
- Kitchen equipment: mixer, food processor, commercial gas ovens and stoves, microwave ovens, electric roaster, dishwasher, chafing dish, and general food preparation utensils.
- Office machines: copier, calculator, and personal computer.
- Audio/Visual equipment, microphone, LCD projector, screen, and hearing assist system.
