Job Title: Drop-in Leader
Department: Harm Reduction Services (HRS) (4312)
Reports To: Assistant Director of Harm Reduction Services
Location: Harm Reduction Center (HRC)
Work Schedule: Tuesday – Friday 2:00pm – 10:00pm and Saturday’s 8:00am to 4:00pm
Job Summary: The Drop-In Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the 3rd Floor Drop-In Center. Key responsibilities include ensuring that only program participants have access to Drop-In services, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and supporting the smooth flow of daily activities on the third floor.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greet participants and foster trusting, nonjudgmental relationships.
- Orient new participants and provide ongoing support and referrals to internal and external services (e.g., medical, housing, MAT, mental health, HIV/HCV testing).
- Ensure timely access for the participants to drop-in services including access to support groups, the computer lab, recreational activities, and wellness resources.
- Responsible for facilitating timely participant access to Drop-In Center services by monitoring usage, assisting with scheduling, and ensuring that resources are shared equitably.
- Monitor participant behavior and enforce program rules to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Respond to overdoses and medical emergencies, including naloxone administration and EMS coordination.
- Carry and maintain an Opioid Overdose Reversal bag at all times.
- Mediate disputes and de-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed approaches.
- Monitor restroom activity to ensure participant safety.
- Organize and lead community events and daily activities (e.g., games, karaoke, skits, holiday celebrations, and outdoor events as needed.
- Promote positive social interaction and help participants develop professional interpersonal skills.
- Work closely with the Harm Reduction Coordinator, Community Manager and the food services program.
- Support workshop facilitators, volunteers, and interns in their roles.
- Communicate participant needs and relevant information to direct service staff.
- Complete and submit incident reports to the Vice-President of Harm Reduction Services.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and participant interactions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in harm reduction or related fields.
- Knowledge of HIV/HCV prevention, safer injection techniques, and overdose response.
- Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to manage a dynamic, fast-paced environment with empathy and professionalism.
- Computer literacy in Word and MS Outlook.
- Commitment to harm reduction principles and experience working with marginalized populations.
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries while enforcing program rules.
- Willingness to attend all required trainings.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Education:
- GED or High School Diploma
