Description
Position is responsible for the juvenile section of the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales. Under direct supervision of the branch librarian, the children's librarian plans and implements children's programming, aids in the development of the children's collection, and supervises staff.
Duties:
- Directs and supervises the operations of the library's services to children.
- Assigns duties to staff as needed while providing training and evaluation.
- Develops and implements programs and services to meet specific needs of children.
- Provides reference services to children, care givers, teachers, etc. including extensive reader's advisory.
- Evaluates materials and services and assists in the selection of materials for library acquisition.
- Assists in promoting library use, especially programs and services of to children.
- Prepares and presents story times and supervises program presentation by staff.
- Monitors the conditions and security of the children's service area.
- Meets with library staff and other parties to coordinate activities and exchange information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school.
- Knowledge of the needs and abilities of children from age 0-18.
- Knowledge of children's, youth, and teen literature.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Commitment to excellent customer service.
