Outreach Assistant

DISTINCTIONS:

• The Outreach Assistant is responsible for the delivery of public services, including materials and information
• This position helps conduct the library outreach program to the homebound, senior facilities, and local neighborhoods by providing mobile library service and programming throughout the community and to special populations

DUTIES: 

• Drives the bookmobile to locations throughout the parish on a pre-determined schedule 
• Delivers library materials and provides other library services to the homebound, those in senior facilities or activity centers, and other special populations in the community
• Provides basic information and readers’ advisory service for bookmobile patrons
• Assists with, plans, and presents programs as needed 
• Conducts library outreach at community events
• Continually assesses community needs and outreach resources to maintain current and relevant services
• Maintains statistics for monthly and annual reports
• Reports vehicle problems, accidents, etc., to supervisory staff
• Maintains safe driving record
• Performs basic inspection and maintenance of the bookmobile to ensure proper vehicle maintenance, including keeping the fuel tank and various automotive fluids filled
• Drives vehicle to and from service garage for repairs and maintenance as needed
• Assists the public in using computers, equipment, the library catalog, and electronic resources
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Willingness to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record of at least five years
• Ability and willingness to operate a large vehicle safely and drive to all parts of Ascension Parish 
• Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and otherwise move books, audio-visual items, and equipment by hand and cart
• Strong computer skills for daily work with library resources and mobile technology
• Satisfactory completion of a Child Care Criminal Background Check

Salary : $31,200
