We are seeking a highly experienced and safety-focused Equestrian Specialist to lead our popular Horseback Riding elective. This is a role of immense trust, where you will teach campers the basics of riding, stable management, and the partnership between rider and horse.
About Black Bear Lake Day Camp:
Our riding program is a high-demand elective, drawing motivated campers from Cubs (age 3) through the STEP Program (10th Grade). You will work closely with our stable staff to ensure every session is safe, educational, and unforgettable. Your dedication to SAFETY is the absolute foundation of this program.
Your Role: The Safety-First Instructor:
You are the chief riding instructor and stable program manager. Your highest priority is ensuring the physical safety and emotional well-being of every camper and horse.
- Prioritize Safety & Instruction: You will lead all riding sessions, rigorously enforcing stable and riding protocols. Safety checks, helmet rules, and proper handling are paramount.
- Lead Tiered Programs: Adapt instruction to suit the camp's divisions:
- Cubs (Ages 3-5): Lead gentle pony rides and supervise the fun, unique elective of painting the horses!
- Lower Camp (1st-2nd Grade): Focus on basic riding skills and stable comfort through corral rides.
- Junior Camp (3rd Grade) and Up: Lead basic riding instruction and supervise exciting, controlled trail rides.
- Teach the Basics: Instruct campers on mounting, dismounting, basic riding aids, and fundamental care for the animals.
- Stable Partnership: Work closely with the stable to ensure all horses are prepared, tacked up properly, and managed respectfully throughout the camp day.
