If you’ve established a solid understanding of financial aid basics and are ready to grow and tackle new challenges, join us as our Assistant Director for Financial Aid. Responsibilities include processing GSAS merit scholarships, coordinating with Student Financial Services on federal student loans, counseling students on all aspects of the financial aid process, and contributing to the development/evolution of financial aid strategy. Expanding beyond what may be traditional bounds of financial aid, this role will also learn to oversee PhD stipends and payments for required teaching assignments. This position supports master’s and doctoral level students as well as post-baccalaureate and non-degree students.
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
- Manages business processes including application fee waivers, tuition deposits, appeals processes, and bill testing. Manages institutional records in PowerFAIDS including auditing of scholarship information. 30%
- Responsible for the counseling and education of all GSAS students with regard to financing their education. Will learn to support international students by managing VIDOF communications and assisting the International Students and Scholars Office with the I-20 process. Coordinate with Institutional Advancement regarding the stewardship of endowed funds. 20%
- Contributes to scholarship and financial aid strategies for masters, post baccalaureate, and PhD students including review of institutional aid, loan processing, and tuition rates. Administers private student loan programs. Responsible for knowledge and adherence to all Federal and University regulations and policies. Liaises with the office of Student Financial Services which manages federal aid and maintains the PowerFAIDS system. 30%
- Gathers and maintains information on cost of attendance, aggregate loan data, and tuition cost comparisons and collaborates with GSAS budget analysts to build strategies to enhance revenue 20%
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Required, Master’s preferred
- Three years of direct experience in the delivery and administration of student financial aid preferred.
- Maintain best practices for graduate scholarships and financial aid and keep informed on strategies that peer institutions are using.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and customer service skills needed. Strong analytical, multi-tasking and problem solving skills necessary.
- Must be a motivated, well-organized, self-directed individual comfortable working with a diverse student body.
