Job Title: Linux Systems Administrator
Type: 9 Month Contract-to-Hire
Location: Downtown Indianapolis (Hybrid: 3 Days Onsite, 2 Days Remote – Flexible Days After Ramp-Up)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Linux Systems Administrator to join a dynamic IT team supporting a public sector client. This contract-to-hire role offers hybrid flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical projects in a growing containerized Linux environment. Upon full-time conversion, the role will include participation in an on-call rotation.
Team & Environment
- IT Department Size: ~15 team members
- Core Infrastructure Team: ~6 members
- Linux VM Environment: ~300 Linux VMs within ~1,000 total VMs
- Total Endpoints Supported: ~1,500, with a growing percentage of Linux
- Key Projects: Jail Management System, E-Filing System (Linux/containerized)
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Basic application troubleshooting
- Linux user and permission management
- Accessing and configuring NFS shares
- Network share setup
- Resizing file systems
- VM creation and management (VMware/Hyper-V experience is a plus)
- Minor Windows/M365 administrative tasks
- Supporting a ~70% Windows environment with a growing Linux footprint
- Supporting containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes)
Qualifications
- Linux Systems Administration (Ubuntu preferred but not required)
- Experience building VMs from scratch
- Initiative-driven
- Autonomous and self-starting
Preferred Qualifications
- Docker/Kubernetes
- Microsoft 365 Administration
- Windows Administration
