Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
Location: Walla Walla, WA
Start Date: September 1, 2025 (or ASAP)
Job Duration: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Shift Type: 5x8-Hour Days

Job Overview:
We are seeking a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) with recent skilled home health experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide in-home physical therapy services, managing a patient caseload of approximately 4-6 visits per day. This role requires strong communication, timely documentation, and excellent patient education skills to support recovery and rehabilitation.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver skilled physical therapy services in patients’ homes based on physician and therapist plans
- Manage a caseload of 4-6 patients daily, focusing on orthopedic and neurologic conditions
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safety
- Utilize proper body mechanics and therapeutic techniques to improve patient outcomes
- Document all patient care accurately and timely in electronic charting systems
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams as needed for coordinated patient care
- Maintain compliance with all licensing, certification, and facility standards
- Manage travel within assigned territory, minimizing drive time while ensuring patient care
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid Physical Therapist Assistant license in Washington State or compact license
- Minimum 1 year of recent skilled physical therapy experience in home health or outpatient settings (inpatient experience NOT accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficiency with electronic charting systems (any system acceptable)
- Strong knowledge of body mechanics, orthopedics, and neurologic rehabilitation
- Excellent patient/family education skills, especially related to home exercise programs
- Reliable personal transportation for home visits, with ability to travel up to 100 miles within the service territory
- Ability to manage multiple patients efficiently with strong time management skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with orthopedic conditions such as cervicalgia, low back pain, post-op joint replacements, and spinal surgeries
- Familiarity with neurologic conditions including stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury
- Previous home health PTA experience
Physical and Work Environment:
- Primarily home health setting, delivering care in patient residences
- Must be comfortable working independently in varied home environments
- Flexible scheduling within normal business hours (Monday – Friday, no weekends)
- Occasional longer drives within a defined geographic territory

Responsibilities
- Assist physical therapists in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Conduct therapeutic exercises and modalities as directed by the supervising therapist.
- Monitor patient progress and report any changes or concerns to the supervising therapist.
- Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, exercises, and home care techniques.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient treatments and progress in compliance with facility policies.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients during therapy sessions.
- Participate in discharge planning to facilitate a smooth transition for patients leaving therapy services.
Skills
- Proficient knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology relevant to physical therapy practices.
- Experience or familiarity with various settings such as skilled nursing facilities, orthopedics, pediatrics, outpatient clinics, and acute care environments.
- Ability to perform trigger point therapy techniques effectively.
- Strong communication skills to educate patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for maintaining patient records and documentation.
- Compassionate approach towards patient care with a focus on improving patient outcomes through rehabilitation efforts.
