What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct Instructor of Harp position at Campbell University?

Department: Fine Arts

Status: Part Time

Position Summary:

The Adjunct Harp Instructor will work in the Music Department of the Division of Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Science, giving weekly Applied Harp Lessons to Harp majors, minors, and non-major students. The Applied Harp Lessons are designed to help students pass the Harp Proficiency Guideline Exams.

Teaching experience, commitment to excellence, and innovation in undergraduate teaching are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage teaching materials and standard literature for Harp Performance
  • Administer weekly assignments that permit measurement of knowledge, abilities, and/or performance
  • Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center and well as Campbell’s Self-Service portal
  • Maintain timely communications with students, staff, and supervisors at all times
  • Interact with students in a positive manner, listen effectively, and field questions pertaining to subject matter
  • Assess participation and performance of students
  • Administer exams according to university guidelines
  • Complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security including FERPA, and other state and federal regulations
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Harp Performance, or Music Education is desired.
  • Minimum of 2 year's experience working in higher education as an instructor is required.
  • Minimum of 5-year's experience of private Harp teaching is required.
  • Experience working as an orchestra/large ensemble harpist is desired.
  • Demonstrated abilities for working in an academic setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to sight-read effectively
  • Familiarity with standard harp literature
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and common methods of digital communication including web/text/chat platforms
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, collegiately, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public
  • Exercise independent judgement and maintain strict confidentiality as necessary
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University
