CASA & CASA IN ACTION SYNOPSIS:

CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.
DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:
CASA’s Development Department raises funds and in-kind contributions from foundations, government agencies, individuals, corporations, congregations, unions, and partner organizations to ensure CASA's financial sustainability.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Major Gifts Officer is a key member of the individual giving team and development department at CASA, responsible for developing, managing, and deepening relationships with CASA and CASA in Action’s most generous donors and prospects. The Major Gifts officer will be responsible for regularly securing donations of more than $1,000 to support our organization’s operations as well as special projects including major campaigns and capital projects. This is a new position within CASA.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing, managing, and deepening relationships with CASA and CASA in Action’s most generous donors and prospects. Diligently tracking donations, interactions, and other key data in CASA’s CRM system.
- Solicitation and stewardship of donations in excess of $1,000, with a focus on securing donations of at least $10,000.
- Using CASA’s donor database and research tools to identify new major donor prospects, both within and outside of CASA’s existing donor base
- Supporting the individual giving team on overall fundraising efforts overall including events, campaigns, regular meetings, and special projects
- This is a new position at CASA - this person will also be asked to work with the Sr. Director of Development and Individual Giving Manager to develop and document new processes, procedures, and best practices for this position and for its functioning within the overall individual giving and development teams
- Assist with office administration (filing, supplies, answering inquiries, etc.) as needed
- As a part of the development team, actively assist and lead when needed on "all-hands" development activities including team meetings, department planning, events, and special projects

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- At least 5 years direct or related professional experience with a strong preference for at least 2 years of dedicated major gifts experience or work experience of which major gifts was a core responsibility
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Strong “people skills” – able to communicate professionally with donors. Comfortable asking for and securing major gifts.
- Highly organized and efficient, high energy “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
- High expectations of the quality of work that comes out of the development office. Ability to work efficiently in occasionally stressful environments.
- Experience working with politics and political giving a plus
- Experience working in movement organizations a plus
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge and experience in fundraising database software (CASA currently uses Everyaction, Salesforce, and WealthEngine)
- Bachelor’s Degree or comparable experience
- Supportive of CASA’s mission and able to communicate the value of the mission to donors.
- Bilingual English/Spanish (written and spoken) preferred but not required
