LOCATION: Salina, KS
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Development will help the agency secure financial resources for its programs and operations with overall responsibility for fundraising, donor relations, and prospect research. This position is responsible for strengthening donor relationships with individuals, foundations, and businesses while developing strategies and plans for key activities and fundraising campaigns. This position will provide leadership and management as part of the agency’s executive team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
1. Develop & Steward Donor Relationships
· Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, board members, volunteers, and other major stakeholders through consistent and regular communications including, but not limited to: face-to-face meetings; over the phone; through email; in appreciation cards and meaningful contacts. Organize work week to allow for 20-25 meaningful contacts per month to assigned prospects.
· Clearly articulate a case for agency needs, values, and ambitions through informal and formal communications, including written proposals or gift agreements that define, secure, and document major gifts.
· Promote the agency through public engagements, meetings, and media outlets.
· Coordinate cultivation and expansion of donors by giving presentations and leading site visits.
· Develop and maintain donor profiles and relationships with major donors.
2. Raise Funds & Execute Grants
· Responsible for generating revenue for the agency primarily through directing & overseeing all development initiatives of the agency including, but not limited to, the following:
o Major Gifts
o Legacy/Planned Giving
o Foundation/Corporate Relationships
o Annual Fund Gifts
o Monthly Giving
o Fundraiser Event(s)
o Appeal(s)
· Manage a portfolio of high-wealth/high-interest prospects. Identify gift opportunities that match their interests and personally cultivate, solicit, and thank these donors.
· Create innovative strategies to meet fundraising appeal goals.
· Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining a prospective donor list for each of the major funding initiatives.
· Establish, build, and maintain a planned giving (estate) program that can bring in one new planned giving donor per quarter.
· Implement ongoing updates and execution of the fundraising plan for the agency’s individual giving campaign and mobile/digital communications.
· Develop and manage agency fundraisers and special events.
· Seek out new grant opportunities and work with staff to write grant proposals.
· Communicate with Director of Finance and program directors to control and manage the timely execution of all grants.
3. Manage Department Operations
· Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Development Department including directing the activities of the Parish and Donor Relations Coordinator, Development (database) Coordinator, and Communications Coordinator. Ensure that all members of the department handle funds received accurately and honestly.
· Run the Development Committee meetings and any development audits.
· Oversee the maintenance of the Agency’s donor database software system and prospect list.
· Have a good understanding of the local community, including our clients, the business community and partner organizations.
· With the Executive Director, monitor and maintain a community presence, participating as needed in meetings of various outside committees.
Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Advertising, PR, non-profit management, or another related field required.
· 5 years’ fundraising experience
· 3 years’ management experience
· Advanced skills with donor database management systems (like Bloomerang, E-Tapestry or others), MS Office suite, HTML, XML, and Photoshop programs.
· Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities.
· Willingness to abide by Catholic Social Teachings as it impacts carrying out the duties of this position.
· Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the CCNKS mission.
· Organized, efficient, reliable, and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative teamwork and continuous improvement.
· Skilled at and enthusiastic about building positive, professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, training, and experience.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient computer skills, especially in programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Desire to problem solve, think creatively, and seek out best practices.
· Ability to lift 25 pounds
TRAVEL
Frequent travel is expected to call upon donors and strategic partners. In addition, this position is expected to attend meetings and make presentations. Although frequent trips are expected, the travel is not generally expected to be overnight. There may be some overnight travel.
