What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator I - Parking position at City of Appleton, WI?
This position is responsible for the maintenance of non-computerized equipment in the parking ramps. Work involves inspecting meters for damage, make minor repairs to meters and performing custodial functions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parking Supervisor.
Examples of Duties
Essential Job Functions
- Collects money from ramp pay machines.
- Inspects parking meters to ensure they are operating properly. Replaces batteries and repairs jammed meters on the street and removes others to parking meter shop for repairs; replaces meter posts.
- Operates a power sweeper to clean parking ramp floors and a pressure washer to clean the ramp deck to install concrete sealer.
- Cleans ramps on a daily basis.
- Installs signage in parking ramps and lots.
- Removes snow and ice from both inside and outside the ramp. Spreads snow melt and ice melt when needed
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
Other Job Functions
- Collects coin from on street and ramp meters as needed.
- Assists with repairs of parking equipment and bathroom facilities as needed.
- Replaces light bulbs in parking ramps.
- Assists in applying concrete sealer on decks of the parking ramps.
Typical Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods and materials used in the repair of small mechanical equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and make necessary repairs.
- Ability to operate and use hand tools.
- Ability to operate a snowblower, power washer and sweeper.
- Ability to operate alone on routine work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to withstand a variety of temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
