The City of Appleton is currently accepting applications for a vacancy in Public Works. Work involves inspecting meters for damage, make minor repairs to meters and performing custodial functions. Work will also involve collecting money from parking meters and ramp pay machines, maintenance of meters and equipment, cleaning, and snow removal (inside and out) of ramps and lots. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parking Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
• Collects money from ramp pay machines.
• Inspects parking meters to ensure they are operating properly. Replaces batteries and repairs jammed meters on the street and removes others to parking meter shop for repairs; replaces meter posts.
• Operates a power sweeper to clean parking ramp floors and a pressure washer to clean the ramp deck to install concrete sealer.
• Cleans ramps on a daily basis.
• Installs signage in parking ramps and lots.
• Removes snow and ice from both inside and outside the ramp. Spreads snow melt and ice melt when needed
• Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
Other Job Functions
• Collects coin from on street and ramp meters as needed.
• Assists with repairs of parking equipment and bathroom facilities as needed.
• Replaces light bulbs in parking ramps.
•Assists in applying concrete sealer on decks of the parking ramps.
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalency, good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to deal effectively with the public and exercise good judgment. This position typically works 10:00am to 600pm Tuesday – Saturday but will require flexibility to work during special events and high parking demand periods. Regular attendance is required.• Knowledge of methods and materials used in the repair of small mechanical equipment.
