The Department: You will join a nationally accredited agency (one of only five agencies in the State of California) by the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks & Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) amongst a team dedicated to upholding the department's mission to promote community health and wellness while building a diverse culture that embraces change and continuous improvement.
Basic Function: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs assigned duties relating to serving congregate meals, dishwashing, and packaging home meals for delivery to homebound seniors for weekday lunch. Scheduled hours are primarily from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Desired candidates should have experience working in the foodservice industry, and a passion for customer service. The person hired for this role will have the opportunity to serve the seniors in our community and should be friendly, calm, and patient.

Candidates most qualified will be granted an interview.
- Comply with all food and health safety regulations & requirements
- Assist with serving lunch
- Assist with clearing & cleaning dining room tables
- Check operation of dishwasher prior to use
- Wash dishes, trays, pot, pans, silverware etc.
- Clean, wash and sanitize all kitchen serving surfaces
- Clean carts, food carriers, cambros etc.
- Wash cloth & plastic food transporters
- Operate washer/dryer as needed
- Clean and sanitize inside refrigerators
- Clean coffee maker and carafes
- Clean kitchen appliances (stove, oven, microwave or steamer) as needed
- Follow oral instructions
- Notify supervisor when kitchen supplies are needed
- Clean & organize storerooms under the direction of Kitchen Aide or Supervisor
- Operate misc. types of kitchen equipment
- Keep simple records
- Performs related work as required
- Must meet State of California Tuberculosis test requirements
- Must pass County of San Diego Food Handler's examination
- Knowledge of food service practices
- Experience working with seniors
- Friendly and reliable
- Food service experience and/or education desirable.
Special Requirements/License or Certificate
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and first aid certification
- Valid California Class C Driver's License
- The person hired must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Parks & Recreation Department
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, exposure to the outdoors, and be able to lift 25 pounds
*Part time positions do not have benefits, and cannot exceed 980 hours in a fiscal year (July 1- June 30).
