Job Description
The City of Chesapeake is seeking an experienced Range Control Officer to support the daily operations of our firearms training range.
Use your expertise to:
- Assist with daily range operations.
- Track qualification scores in the database.
- Conduct firearm instruction
- Supervise safe shooting activities.
- Monitor activity on shooting lanes.
- Perform daily and monthly maintenance on range equipment and target systems.
- Assist with weapon inspections.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Training or Assistant Director of Training.
Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Prior law enforcement, firearm instructor and armorer.
**This class requires a minimum of 5 years related experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Armorer certifications for weapon systems utilized by the Police Department. Firearms instruction certification. Must be 21 years or older.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
