Job Summary:

The apprentice electrician is an entry-level electrician trainee that will learn the concepts and skills necessary to become a certified electrician. Works under the direct supervision of a journeyman and master electrician.

Essential Job Functions:

a. Provide support to journeymen and master electricians in the maintenance, operations and repairs of electrical systems.

b. Assist with and performs installation and maintenance tasks in order to ensure the effective operation of various electrical systems and equipment.

c. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

a. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.

b. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.

c. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license form the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.

d. Required to obtain an Electrician Apprentice License with (TDLR) Texas Department of Licensing Regulations within 3 months of employment.

Required Education:

High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency

Education Preference:

Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school licensees and certificates are likely sources.

Educational Substitute:

5 years on the field training.

Required Work Experience:

No experience required.

Experience Preference:

Minimum 1 year of experience in related field.

a. Requires the ability to learn and get familiar with electrical codes and federal regulations.

b. Requires the ability to adapt to the use of different equipment or supplies.

c. Requires the ability to adapt to different working conditions.

Work Conditions:
