Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to oversee the assigned activities toward maintaining assigned City buildings by using appropriate tools and material for building maintenance. Duties include replacing electrical switches and fixtures, painting, repairs including minor plumbing and electrical, as requested. Other duties include securing buildings after work hours, reporting safety hazards, assisting with special events, and other duties as required.
Essential Job Functions:

a. Maintain repairs and general maintenance of city buildings, follow work schedule as assigned, including and related custodial chores as needed.
b. Perform light maintenance and repairs using ladders and changing light bulbs; report any safety hazards and damages in City buildings; perform miscellaneous building maintenance tasks as directed by supervisor; replacing or repairing minor building features.
c. Perform general plumbing and electrical repairs;
d. Determine proper tools and equipment for assigned projects; participate in repair of wood surfaces, paint structures or areas, remove and replace defective electrical switches and other fixtures, clean or replace filters, maintain inventory of supplies; to be distributed to all city buildings.
e. Performs activities on projects in compliance with all City, State, and safety codes.
f. Secure buildings after working hours or as required; assisting in setting up for and breaking down decorations and equipment for special events.
Conditions of Employment:
a. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
b. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
c. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
d. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Required Education:
High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
Education Preference:
Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school certificates are likely sources.

Experience Preference:
One (1) year of general carpentry, plumbing, repairs, and job training experience is preferred

c. Ability to perform the duties related to carpentry, repairs, minor plumbing and electrical as requested, and other related cleaning materials.
d. Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
