Job Summary:

Performs complex food preparation work. Work involves preparing, seasoning, and cooking food, and maintaining inventories and records of food consumption. May provide guidance to others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Prepares, seasons, and cooks food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or established standards.
2. Inspects food preparation equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure sanitary conditions.
3. Reports kitchen equipment in need of repair or replacement.
4. Ensures that food is maintained at proper serving temperatures.
5. Maintains an inventory of supplies and prepares requisitions for needed items.
6. Assists in making recommendations for improving cooking and kitchen operations.
7. Assists in reviewing and planning menus to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared.
8. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
3. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
4. Able to obtain Food Handler's permit.
5. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Required Education:

High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.

Required Work Experience:

Requires one (1) to three (3) years' experience in restaurant food preparation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

1. Requires a working knowledge of restaurant equipment.
2. Communications skills, both orally and written.
3. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
4. Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
5. Maintain working relationships within the work environment.
6. Able to prepare and cook various foods as required.
7. Maintain clean and organized workspace.
8. Knowledge of state and local Health Code requirements.
9. Customer Service skills.

Work Conditions:
