Under the general direction of the Code Enforcement Manager, incumbent coordinates, plans, directs and supervises the activities of assigned Code Enforcement Officers for the purpose of protecting the public health, safety and welfare and improve the overall quality of life in our community.
Responsibilities And Reporting During An Emergency Situation
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

- Supervises trains and evaluates the performance of assigned staff and determines appropriate personnel action plans; including motivation, documentation and discipline.
- Interacts with citizens, business owners, property owners, contractors, City departments and elected officials regarding City Codes, Florida Statutes and the Florida Building Code in efforts to obtain voluntary compliance.
- Responsible for investigative research, analysis, and recommendations for the more complicated, code cases.
- Responsible for Unsafe Structure abatement program, inspections, and case management.
- Reviews all notices of violations, uniform citations, correspondence, and daily logs of assigned Code Officers for accuracy, completeness, and effectiveness of enforcement action to influence voluntary compliance.
- Prepares and prosecutes cases on behalf of the City as presented to the Code Enforcement Board, Special Magistrate and/or County Circuit Court.
- Ensures staff members follow proper procedures and are prepared for all assigned cases and tasks.
- Assists Code Enforcement Manager in the planning of sweeps and ensures proper execution by staff.
- Attendance and participation in various meetings including Code Board, City Council, Neighborhood Watch, Town Hall, Division, Department, inter-departmental and others as requested.
- Delegation of tasks, coordination of projects, report tracking, and record keeping, related to operations and the continued education of assigned staff.
- Drive a motor vehicle to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Maintenance of assigned City vehicle and equipment.
- This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience as an inspector with a code enforcement or building inspection agency with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred.
- International Code Council certification (I.C.C.) preferred
- Construction knowledge and experience preferred
- Certified Public Supervisor certification from the Florida Certified Public Manager program.
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Level I, II, and III at time of hire or be able to obtain within three (3) years of date of hire.
