What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Clerk I position at City of Garden City (KS)?
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Court Clerk I with the Municipal Court Department. This position is responsible for performing work activities relating to Municipal Court fines, records, court orders, and reports including typing, filing, word processing, revenue collection and fingerprinting for all class A and B misdemeanor conviction.
- Prepares monthly court reports including citations disposed of.
- Prepares weekly arrest records, warrants and suspensions; weekly court docket.
- Collects fines, court cost, purchase orders, re-fees, (miscellaneous revenues), and turns in all receipts to Court Administrator.
- Assist the Judge in Court weekly by preparing documentation and sending the proper documentation to the jail for release or bond modification.
- Maintains calendar for notices of trial continuances, case management, hearing dates.
- Prepares affidavits, 10/30 day letters, bond forfeitures, notices to appear, summonses, discoveries, and subpoenas.
- Monitor and process restitution orders to include creating final documents (purchase orders).
- Files correspondence, reports, notice of intents, and records relating to Municipal Court activities.
- Prepare First Appearance dockets by requesting police reports, CDR’s, backgrounds, and submitting all records to the Prosecutor for review.
- Collaborates sharing of digital files to include body camera videos to personnel or representatives of court cases.
- Answers and responds to telephone or personal inquiries or refers to proper information source.
- Assist and schedules calls for the Prosecutor.
- Prepares background and file requests for County (s) Attorney offices, Community Corrections, Immigrations, KBI (applications for conceal & carry and DUID cases), State Gaming Commission and State Nursing board. Walk-in records requests.
- Prepares cases for reporting to ARSI for collections; sends electronically.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of Police Department and Municipal Court records and reports. Ability to communicate with City employees, governmental agencies and officials, and the general public. Ability to use Microsoft products, Outlook, and Department RMS.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Business or vocational secretarial course work preferred. Over one year responsible administrative support/customer service experience required. Bilingual preferred. Valid Kansas driver’s license required.
Environment: Typical office environment.
Physical Characteristics: Light physical work, lifting up to 25 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
