DEFINITION
Under direction from the Recreation Supervisor, organizes, schedules and supervises the daily operation of the
City’s pool and its programs, classes, and activities; promotes and implements procedures and established
policies for safe recreation environment and responsible pool use conduct; reports and records complaints,
special requests, safety and security issues and illegal activities; performs related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Organizes, schedules and monitors daily operation of the City’s pool and its programs, classes, and
activities; ensures proper management of the facility.
  • Oversees, guides and leads City’s pool staff; trains and instructs pool and aquatic facility personnel on
proper pool safety procedures.
  • Transports pool items, materials and products between pool facilities as requested.
  • Promotes positive recreation environment and informs public of expected conduct and behavior;
receives, responds to and reports complaints, issues and concerns.
  • Processes special requests; monitors and notes safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities;
resolves issues within scope of authority.
  • Provides excellent customer service; promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with policies and
procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned;

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge:

  • Lifesaving methods and the application of first aid.
  • Policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the pool.
  • Methods and practices of pool cleaning and maintenance.
  • Rescue procedures for distressed swimmers.
  • Administration of artificial respiration and first aid.
  • Instruction for swimming and lifesaving methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities
necessary. Example combinations include:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Three (3) years of aquatics recreation work experience as a paid Instructor/Lifeguard, with some

experience providing work direction to pool and aquatic facility staff.

Required Licenses and Certificates

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate.
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • American Red Cross First Aid.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Vision abilities required to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust

focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Outside weather conditions.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level is moderately loud.
