What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker I (Horticulture) position at City of St. Petersburg?

This is unskilled manual and limited semi-skilled work in the installing, trimming, and maintaining plant material and grounds maintenance. Work includes operating a motor vehicle, using standard hand tools (blowers, edgers, trimmers, etc.) and power equipment to perform tasks of a manual nature and other related work.

Salary: $15.45 - $20.34 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have some prior experience in grounds maintenance or a related field.
  • Be able to perform minor skilled tasks such as mowing, blowing, edging, and trimming vegetation and the maintenance of grounds.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Possess and maintain State of Florida Public Pesticide Applicator License for Ornamental & Turf Pest Control from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under provisions of Chapter 487 Florida Statutes.
  • Have some experience in plant identification and maintaining plant material.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
