The purpose of this position is to maintain trees in city parks, grounds and roadways. This is accomplished by trimming, planting and removing trees, operating light and heavy equipment, aide in ensuring site safety for pedestrians and crew and responding to emergency after hours calls.
Other duties include acting crew leader during emergency events, assisting with special projects, national disasters, trimming the Christmas tree, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and assisting other departments as needed.
Typical Tasks
JOB DUTIES : Maintains trees by removing dead and hazardous limbs; pruning and raising limbs over walk ways; roping tree limbs;
using aerial bucket trucks, chainsaws, and brush chippers; and raking and cleaning debris.Removes and plants trees by roping tress, operating machinery and vehicles, digging, staking trees, and raking and cleaning debris.
Assists other departments and maintains equipment by assisting during special events and projects, and performs preventative maintenance on all equipment.Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.Minimum of one year of relative experienceClass B CDL or ability to obtain within one year.Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.

The City offers two options for health coverage : a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account.

Deferred Compensation -
The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to either the 401(k) or 457 plans regardless of employee contribution.
Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines.
