What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Estimator position at CJR Renewables?
CJR Renewables is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Estimator to join our dynamic team. This role plays a key part in developing competitive and technically sound estimates for utility-scale solar PV, wind, and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects.
You will collaborate with engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure every proposal is cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Analyze RFPs, electrical drawings, technical specs, and site conditions.
- Develop cost estimates and Bills of Materials (BOM) for HV, MV, and LV systems using our internal Income Map (IM) tool.
- Issue RFIs to clarify project scope and client requirements.
- Prepare technical proposal content including scope, schedule, and deliverables.
Supplier & Cost Coordination
- Collaborate with Procurement to obtain and evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotes.
- Use Comparative Maps (CM) for bid analysis and optimization.
- Support leadership during pricing and risk reviews.
Design & Technical Input
- Validate and optimize electrical system designs for cost-efficiency and constructability.
- Coordinate with Engineering to provide technical input and optimize layout and design.
- Ensure design compliance with NEC, IEEE, OSHA, and local regulations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Estimating Manager, Engineering, Procurement, and BD teams to ensure proposal alignment.
- Attend technical meetings and site visits as needed.
- Conduct project handovers in line with internal procedures.
Documentation & Reporting
- Organize and maintain proposal documentation via PWay folders.
- Generate cost summary reports and maintain accurate cost databases.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure all estimates adhere to applicable codes and safety regulations.
- Integrate QHSE best practices into all planning and estimating activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of tools and processes.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), or High School Diploma/GED with relevant experience
- 2 years of electrical engineering experience or 1 year in renewable energy cost estimating
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
Preferred:
- Experience with SAP and cost estimating/take-off software
- Familiarity with renewable energy construction standards and regulations
Additional Details
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and travel occasionally to project sites
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience
