Bookstore Operations Manager

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary:
This position provides leadership and direction to Bookstore customer service operations. The position serves as a sales floor work leader, is responsible for all cash office functions, cashier training and supervision, and sales floor merchandising. The Operations Manager provides operational support to store manager; provides assistance to department managers; supervises or assists in all store operations; and assumes responsibility for all store operations in the absence of the store manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Maintain necessary controls/procedures for all sales operations, including cash office and register procedures, daily system management, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
2. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise all student staff.
3. Prepare, analyze, and reconcile daily sales reports.
4. Participate in store planning.
5. Make purchasing decisions for assigned inventory categories.
6. Supervise sales floor including merchandising, stocking & rotation of soft goods and general merchandise inventory.
7. Recommend and evaluate enhancements to store policies and procedures.
8. Facilitate retail sales at campus related activities including sporting events, commencement, and special events.  May include some nights and/or weekends.
9. Coordinate marketing initiatives, including campus events, promotional materials, and social media.  
10. Assist in maintaining online store to grow online sales opportunities.  
11. Assist the Bookstore General Manager with special projects and assessments on the changing needs and interests of students and necessary infrastructure to support the appropriate response. 

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years experience in retail operations
Six years experience in retail operations may be substituted for degree requirement.
Supervisory experience Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to implement solutions effectively without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in retail management, as well as some familiarity with point of sales systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
