What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinic Surgery Scheduler position at Columbia Memorial Hospital?

Extracts patient demographic data from surgical information sheets and inputs into electronic health record (EHR) or use in operating room information system. Coordinates and monitors resource requirements for scheduled cases (vendors, other departments) and works with OR scheduler to confirm room and resources (instrumentation, other departments, etc.) to confirm availability on day of surgery. Works with OR, providers, clinic RNs and management to adjust the schedule and communicates changes to others as appropriate. Accesses protected health information in accordance with regulatory and organizational guidelines.Is the point of contact for patients, surgeons, vendors, other departments for surgery coordinating and scheduling questions.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to: High school or equivalency diploma and one-year experience where the primary function of the position was clinic functions in a surgical practice. Good knowledge of the operation, use and functions of an EHR for scheduling, messaging and communication of administrative duties; good knowledge of medical/surgical terminology; clinical experience is a benefit; good planning and organizational skills, good problem solving skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure; ability to work effectively with others; ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software in performing work assignments; thoroughness, initiative; good judgment.

Education and/or Experience
Experience in surgical practice preferred. Demonstrable computer knowledge and competency for multiple software applications including work processing, data entry, retrieval, email, and internet browsing. Demonstrates excellent clerical, spelling, mathematical, verbal and handwriting skills. Demonstrable ability to prioritize tasks/assignments independently and direct others recognizing that patient care is the priority. Demonstrates clear handwriting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Must be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds). Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment. Must be tolerant of Formalin/fixative solutions. Must be able to multi-task while working under stressful conditions.
