**What You'll Do:**
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all public works construction projects, including streets, sidewalks, bridges, and other essential infrastructure, meet the highest standards. You'll verify that work aligns with city plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Inspections & Reports: Conduct thorough inspections, investigations, and reports on the quality of work and materials used in public works projects. You'll check line, grade, size, elevation, and location to ensure compliance with regulations and specifications.
  • Program Oversight: Oversee and report on key city programs, including railroad improvements, street light enhancements, sight distance evaluations, traffic counts, and other departmental initiatives.
  • Field Testing: Perform routine field tests, collect material samples for laboratory analysis, and carry out engineering surveys and measurements to ensure projects are built to last.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Schedule inspections, tests, and walk-throughs with contractors and city staff. Review project plans and specifications, attend pre-construction conferences, and document project progress through detailed daily reports.
  • Right-of-Way (ROW) Permit Reviews: Ensure that ROW permits comply with city regulations and contribute to the safe and efficient use of public spaces.
  • Safety Advocate: Promote a culture of safety by reporting any observed hazards and modeling city values in everything you do.


Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.

The hiring range for this position is $29.39 - $36.74 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in construction inspection or related work are required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial driver's license or obtain one within three months of the hire date and maintain it during employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of principles and practices of Public Works Administration, roadway and bridge construction specifications, standards, and practices, along with thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment common to engineering and construction operations
  • Basic knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations related to construction inspection and safety
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of standard equipment associated with construction and construction inspection
  • Knowledge of construction and engineering terminology
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing
  • Skill in reading and understanding engineering plans and specifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and construction professionals, coworkers, and the public
  • Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented
