Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet’s Department of Disability Determination Services Programs (DDDSP) assists and determines eligibility for Social Security Administration Disability benefits for the citizens in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
We are seeking a Disability Adjudicator III to provide consultation services to Social Security disability adjudicators in the Case Processing Section D2.
The Disability Adjudicator III position is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides expert level advice and consultation to less experienced adjudicators on complex disability claims; responds to questions regarding development and documentation of disability claims;
- Adjudicates all levels of disability claims and special workloads; requests, obtains, and evaluates medical and vocational evidence; prepares written decision.
- Serves as back-up to supervisors; may assist in identifying/resolving caseload problems in unit, recommending procedural changes, and/or performing consultative exams and other reviews;
- Serves as field office point of contact and/or serves on work-groups.
- Answers inquiries from claimants, representatives, Social Security offices and others requesting claims information.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims or administrative experience within an organization that adjudicates Social Security Administration disability claims will substitute for the required bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. Conducting hearings and professional relations may require frequent travel. The other functions may require occasional travel. A 40-hour work week is required.
