THE POSITION

The Department of Agriculture is currently looking for qualified individuals to take on the role of Veterinary Medical Field Officer at the Meadows Racetrack located in Washington County. In this vital position, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing medical procedures related to Thoroughbred and/or Standardbred racing activities, ensuring the health and welfare of the animals involved. DESCRIPTION OF WORK


This role entails providing specialized veterinary knowledge in the realm of regulatory medicine for thoroughbred and/or standardbred racetracks, with a focus on overseeing the Bleeder Medication Program and managing activities within the test barn. Additionally, the position is responsible for implementing programs from the Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services, as well as enforcing laws and regulations mandated by legislation within the designated region of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). This includes ensuring effective animal disease surveillance and control measures are in place, thereby contributing to the overall health and safety of the equine population in the area.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely withvendors and work hours may change based onvendor availability.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience as a veterinarian and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited college or university.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
  • All employees must obtain an active license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Veterinary Medicine within six months of hire.
  • All positions must obtain United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Category II Accreditation within six months of hire.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waivedfor this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
