We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Animal Care Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will perform critical animal husbandry and health care in alignment with experimental protocols and regulatory standards, including the Animal Welfare Act, NIH guidelines, and AAALAC accreditation requirements.
You will work within a Biosafety Level 1 and 2 laboratory environment, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and research integrity

Location : Athens, GA 30601
Duration : 10 Months Contract (Possible Extension or possibility of the assignment to be converted to a full time role)
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care for animals, including feed, water, enrichment, and health assessments. Maintain animal pens, feeders, drinking systems, and handling equipment.
Document all care and preventive medicine activities in compliance with regulations and protocols.
Assist with scientific procedures as per study protocols, including administering experimental treatments and conducting clinical observations.
Perform and record clinical R&D sample collection and necropsies under supervision.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of animal rooms and equipment. Conduct biosecurity functions such as water system sanitation and environmental auditing.
- Potentially supervise junior team members and serve as a site representative on committees or workgroups as needed. Provide guidance and support under the direction of the Site Veterinarian or Group / Team Leader.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity. Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Demonstrated persistence, attention to detail, and energy in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain a steady temperament while handling livestock and during various procedures.
- Strong cooperative skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Must exhibit sound judgment, analytical thinking, and a results-oriented approach.
