Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Cardio-Pulmonary Director and Cardio-Pulmonary staff, the Respiratory Tech assists in patient care activities, as directed by licensed staff.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provides direct age-appropriate care to patients as directed by collaborating physicians, nursing and other hospital staff in providing Respiratory Care Services.
- Performs phases of airway management which includes oral airways, nasal airways, and bag mask ventilation, as directed by licensed staff.
- Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes and monitors equipment/facilities, as delegated by licensed staff.
- Assembles respiratory equipment, as delegated by licensed staff.
- Collects and reviews patient data and non-invasive vitals.
- Maintains nasal cannula or face mask for oxygen therapy in the proper position on the patient.
- Performs assisted ventilation in emergency resuscitation using a manual resuscitator, as directed by licensed staff.
- Helps prepare and stock supplies within the Respiratory Department.
- Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- High School diploma / Equivalent Required
- Must be enrolled in an Accredited RRT Program
- Current IL Respiratory Care Practitioners Student or Temporary License
License/Certification Requirements
- BLS Required
Experience Requirements
- Healthcare experience Preferred
