POSITION SUMMARY: The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for overseeing various training activities across the organization, ensuring that employees are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. This role involves conducting training sessions, booking and coordinating training events, tracking training progress, and creating engaging training materials. The Learning and Development Specialist will play a key role in fostering leadership development and promoting a culture of belonging within the organization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions, including leadership development, culture of belonging, and other organizational programs.
  2. Manage the training logistics; including booking training sessions, coordinating with facilitators, and venues as needed.
  3. Track employee participation and progress in training programs, including attendance and outcomes, to ensure completion and continuous improvement.
  4. Design, develop and maintain engaging training materials, including presentations, guides, and e-learning modules.
  5. Collaborate with department leaders to assess needs and customize training content to align with organizational needs.
  6. Generate training reports to track program effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvements.
  7. Develop and implement programs aimed at enhancing leadership skills among current and future leadership.
  8. Facilitate workshops on communication, team building, conflict resolution, and other leadership skills.
  9. Promote a culture of inclusion and belonging by incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into training programs.
  10. Assess training methods and stay current on trends to ensure the delivery of effective and engaging learning solutions.
  11. Maintain comprehensive training records, generate reports, and provide recommendations to enhance training program effectiveness.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or related field.
  2. Two (2) or more years of experience in training or professional role related to employee development.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business-related computer applications, including talent management and time/attendance systems; familiarity with Paycom software is preferred.
  4. Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  5. Knowledge and application of adult learning principles.
  6. Understanding of YMCA operations, programs, and values.
  7. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
  • Will require travel between locations and flexible scheduling to accommodate training needs.
  • Must have a high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Use of computers for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
