Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5x8-hour shifts (40 hrs/week) | Saturdays possible (8a–12p)
Weekends: Saturdays possible
On Call: None
Position Overview
The Pediatrics Office Nurse (RN) will coordinate and provide professional nursing care in an outpatient pediatrics department, carrying out responsibilities independently within accepted nursing standards, medical direction, and hospital policies. This position focuses heavily on telephone triage (80% of the role) while supporting in-person patient care, collaborating with the care team, and educating patients and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
- Conduct telephone triage, assessing patient symptoms and determining appropriate care needs
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff to develop patient care plans
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
- Administer medications and treatments per provider orders
- Educate patients/families on treatment, medications, and preventive care
- Support and advocate for patients’ needs and rights
- Teach and direct clinical support staff (LPNs, Medical Assistants)
- Comply with all hospital policies, regulatory guidelines, and safety standards
Requirements
- Triage/telephone nursing experience (majority of time spent on phone) – Required
- Pediatric experience – Required
- Experience with all age groups (Adolescent to Geriatric)
- Clinic or medical office experience – Required
- Critical Access Hospital experience – Preferred
Skills: Ability to effectively communicate about medications, diagnoses, and medical history
Certifications:
- BLS (AHA) – Required
Licensure:
- Active NH or Compact RN license – Required (facility will not pend license)
