Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to work full time for its Vocational Services Program.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position is a non-exempt position paying $25-33 per hour at 35 hours per week. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM and the office is located in Hempstead, NY. The role reports to the Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for providing counseling, vocational assistance, and employment services to clients referred at drug/alcohol treatment programs in Nassau County with the outcome of economic self-sufficiency as the objective of the counseling process.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Perform client intake to obtain information to initiate the counseling process.   
2. Provide on-going individual and group counseling to develop vocational and educational plans based on education, employment background, expressed interest and career exploration activities.
3. Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to review progress towards established goals.
4. Administer, score, and interpret aptitude, interest, and work sample tests when appropriate.
5. Function as agency liaison with vocational agencies such as ACCESS/VR, DOL and One-Stop Employment Centers.
6. Maintain individual client case folders.
7. Consult with family, school, and community agencies regarding client's progress.
8. Utilize the educational training, skills and experience obtained to provide appropriate professional services, techniques, and strategies for clients.
9. Explore and develop employment opportunities and community resources for referral purposes.
10. Prepare required forms and keep statistics on client contacts, referrals, job activities, etc.
11. Travel between locations in which the agency provides vocational services to in Nassau County.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree in either counseling, psychology, sociology, or otherwise related field with a minimum of two years of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations; or Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field of rehabilitation psychology; or Master’s degree in any counseling or psychology specialization, with one year of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations; or Rehabilitation Counseling Master’s Degree student supervised by a CRC.
2. Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
3. Ability to motivate self and work independently.
4. Must have access to car and possess a valid New York State Driver's License.

Salary : $25 - $33
