Construction Estimator – Commercial General Contractor
Location: Houston, TX | Full-Time
Must be based in Houston, TX
A leading Commercial General Contractor in Houston is seeking a skilled Estimator to join their growing preconstruction team. This firm specializes in ground-up commercial projects as well as renovations across a variety of sectors including office, retail, healthcare, education, and municipal.
This is a great opportunity for an Estimator with a strong background in commercial construction to play a key role in a company that values accuracy, collaboration, and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for ground-up and renovation commercial projects
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client walkthroughs as needed
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options
- Maintain and update historical cost data and subcontractor/vendor databases
- Collaborate closely with the project management team to ensure a smooth handoff from preconstruction to execution
- Track and manage bid schedules and deadlines
- Assist in preparing proposals, qualifications, and bid packages for clients
Requirements:
- Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and local market pricing
- Experience with both ground-up and interior renovation projects
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, ProEst, or similar tools)
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
