Ergon Inc. in Flowood, MS currently has an opening for a Plant Support Engineer in the Corporate Engineering Department with a primary focus within the Asphalt and Emulsions and Terminating business segment.
Ergon, Inc. is a privately held company headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi. Ergon owns and operates two petroleum refineries located in Mississippi and West Virginia, producing gasoline, low-sulfur diesel, lubricant and process base oils, asphalts and other specialty products. Ergon also produces, markets, and/or distributes paving asphalt, asphalt emulsions, specialty coatings, sealants, and other road construction and maintenance products from over thirty owned or leased asphalt and emulsions plants across the United States.
The Plant Support Engineer role supports a number of assigned facilities and is responsible for trouble shooting maintenance issues, building relationships with facility personnel, and executing maintenance and capital projects at those assigned facilities.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Technical bachelor's degree is required. Mechanical or Civil Engineering is preferred.
- A minimum of three years as a maintenance/project/support engineer is preferred but not required
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required.
R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S
Regular responsibilities include proactive and reactive maintenance support, systems design, cost estimating, project justification, contractor review, scheduling, and construction management. Typical maintenance and project support will include tanks, pumps, mixers, boilers, heaters, piping, foundations, electrical, and instrumentation assets to maintain operation or modify and/or expand processing or storage capabilities at existing plants. The engineer may be expected to self-perform certain aspects of projects including process equipment sizing/specification, hydraulic calculations, and heat transfer calculations.
KEY ROLE DUTIES:
- Provide technical support for Asphalt & Emulsions and Terminaling facilities and help facility personnel troubleshoot and assess maintenance issues
- Serve as project manager for planned and unplanned projects consisting of scope development, detailed design, budget development, contractor selection, and project execution oversight.
- Prepare and/or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, etc.
- Design, specify, and/or select mechanical systems, equipment, and instrumentation related to asphalt process and/or storage applications
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting in response to breakdowns or unplanned maintenance issues
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety laws related to repairs or projects
- Develop scopes, cost estimates, and schedules for capital and maintenance projects
- Manage contractor selection process and oversee construction activities
- Participate in PSSR, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities
- Develop design standards, department tools/procedures, training material, etc.
- Develop strong working relationships with co-workers, facility managers, consultants, contractors, etc.
