Job Purpose:
The Health Information Clerk will work under the direct supervision of the Health Information Manager to maintain patient files, manage statistics, respond to requests for medical records, and perform various clerical duties. This position will be responsible for processing incoming electronic documents, scanning and indexing records, completing print requests, and supporting the overall functionality of the department.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain documents and patient files through electronic imaging, scanning batches, and uploading documents to the appropriate files.
- Assist with the management, retention, and storage of all patient records in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Assist with departmental audits, investigations, and internal quality checks to ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Issue medical records to individuals and agencies according to applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure all medical records are protected and kept confidential in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform filing duties, including purging and archiving outdated documents as necessary.
- Retrieve, review, and prepare records for scanning, ensuring they are properly indexed using defined data elements.
- Perform quality checks on scanned documents to ensure proper alignment, clarity, and readability, and resolve any issues with scanned materials.
- Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the organization and department.
