The major goals of the 4-H Science: Building a 4-H STEM Career Pathway Initiative were (a) to provide youth with STEM education; (b) to engage youth, especially girls and minorities, in STEM and college and career readiness; (c) to involve Extension 4-H professionals, corporate volunteers (with STEM expertise), and 4-H community volunteers in 4-H STEM programs; and (d) to realize the 4-H STEM Career PathwayThe duties listed below are not all that may be assigned but are considered essential for an employee to perform.
The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
STEAM Lesson Delivery: Independently deliver pre-designed 4-H STEAM curricula and activities to students in classroom settings, adhering to established lesson plans and safety protocols. Under the supervision of the supervisor, adapt lessons as needed to meet the specific needs and learning styles of diverse student populations and age groups. Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a positive and productive learning environment. Prepare and organize all necessary materials and supplies for each lesson. Maintain accurate records of lessons delivered, schools visited, and student participation. Program Support & Outreach: Assist in coordinating scheduling with school administrators and teachers for STEAM lesson delivery. Represent 4-H positively and professionally in interactions with school personnel, students, and parents. Participate in occasional 4-H events, trainings, or meetings as requested. Support and assist Extension volunteers in the delivery of 4-H youth programs. Assist with the promotion of 4-H STEAM programs to schools and the community. Administrative & Reporting (5%) - Complete required program reports and evaluations in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain inventory of program supplies and communicate needs to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all university, county, and 4-H policies and procedures.
High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting (e.g., classroom assistant, camp counselor, after-school program leader, tutor). Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for STEAM concepts. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for travel to various school locations within the county/region. Ability to pass a criminal background check and all required youth protection screening Ability to lift and carry program materials and supplies (up to 25 lbs). Ability to stand, walk, and engage actively with students for extended periods. Ability to travel frequently to various school locations.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related field.
- Experience delivering hands-on educational activities.
- Familiarity with the 4-H Youth Development program.
- Experience working in a school setting.
